This week I recieved this email from Joe Boyd of Fatback Joe’s BBQ; Land O’ Lakes, Florida. Thanks Joe for your support and love of our products. We appreciate cooks like you that “wanna be a Plowboy, baby!”
Todd,
I am sure you hear this all the time, but thanks for the great product you put out.
I just started competing this year. My first comp I got 10th in ribs and no higher than 27th in anything else. Well the 10th in ribs was enough to make me come back for more punishment. 2nd comp I got an 8th in ribs and no better than 25th in anything else. 3rd comp shut out in everything. Well by the time I thinking about a 4th comp, I knew I had to try something different. I decided to experiment with chicken and that is when I first tried your Yardbird Rub. Well at that comp I got a 9th in chicken……I was stoked since I had never been higher than 26th up until that point in chicken. I had read somewhere that you also used the Yardbird rub on your pork as well as chicken so I figured I had nothing to lose……I even decided to use it on my ribs even though I had scored alright on those. That just left me figuring out what to do with brisket. About the time the comp was drawing near, I saw that you were offering your beef rub……..I had to try it.
Well, to make a very long story short, I did my 5th contest this last weekend and used Plowboy’s Rubs on all of my turn ins and to say that I was pleased with the results would be a huge understatement.
1st Place Chicken - previous high was 9th (also with your rub
)
3rd Place Ribs - previous high was 8th with my own rub……ribs were the only thing I had going for me.
4th Place Pork - previous high was 25th, with an average down in the 30s, two times I was almost DAL. I was more stunned by the pork than I was with the chicken win……..up until this point I was sure that I sucked in pork and could not be help. Using your product added 15 points onto my best pork score.
8th Place Brisket - previous high was 20th……you need to tweak the beef rub….it is obviously not as good. Just kidding, you can blame the cook on that one. LMAO
3rd Overall - just missed RGC by 3/100ths of a point. I was never in the top 20 before.
I can honestly say that I owe it all to your product. It is outstanding and, of course, I plan on using for a long, long time. You probably hear it a lot, you probably don’t get tired of it, so I just wanted to say, “thank you for a great product”
Thanks,
Joe Boyd
