I’ve been mentioning the new Big Green Egg in my posts recently, but I’ve not done a story on it yet. The weekend before Christmas, we visited a hardware store going out of business. They had a new, large Egg priced as a medium, AND 30% off. It worked out that I got a large for half price. Merry Christmas, eh? The hardware store was six hours away from home as we were visiting my family for Christmas in NorthWest Iowa. We found room in the back of the Chrysler Pacifica and it made the long journey home on Christmas Eve.
Before the first cook, I wanted to build a table for the Big Green Egg to sit in. The weekend before New Years, I went to work and build a very solid table made of red oak. The design was inspired from many I’ve seen on the Naked Whiz site.
The Shop
Nearly Done
With the table finished, it was moved to the deck. The Big Green Egg was placed with care. Everything fit, and the table was square. It was probably the best built project of significant size that I’ve done. I added bronze electrical plates to the front and top of the table. The top plate is for a magnetic BBQ light. The plate on the front is for a magnetic thermometer probe transmitter. Ideas that came from looking at tables on the Naked Whiz site.
Michael and I took some shots while it was still clean.
And one final attachment that is standard on any serious Egger’s table.
To cover the table when not in use, I purchased a $6 plastic, camo tarp. I added snaps to the tarp and to the table. An 8′ x 10′ tarp ended up being the perfect size.

[…] The muffins were baked within my Big Green Egg cooker. I had just finished a 14 hour cook of a pork butt and wanted to take advantage of the fire and heat that was left from the pork cook. First, two medium sweet potatoes were roasted in the egg. The flesh of the roasted potatoes was harvested and used in the following recipe. […]

Jayson,
You are welcome to come look at my table and take measurements. We just got a Big Green Egg Small for my 4 year old son to start using. I have to build a mini table for him now.
Where are you a Chef in NKC?
Thanks Todd- I am a chef at a restaurant called robert’s steakhouse inside the penthouse executive club in NYC. Where are you located? Sorry, I read your first post in a rush. I thought you were in my area. I’ll see if I can put something together for you.
hey, would you mind sending me the instructions on building my own nest. Yours looks amazing. Thanks!
I love the table so much I want to build one myself. My girl frind is buyig a large egg and in return I promised to build her a table. I am a jack of all trades and can handle building your table without much problem. The plans would be a big help and I thank you for offering to send then to me.

I LIKE YOUR CART AND WOULD LIKE TO BUILD ONE FOR A LARGE EGG. pLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR MEASUREMENTS AND HOW MUCH WOOD TO BUY. THANKS SO MUCH.
Me too please–I like your table and would like some measurement also–
just an idea, if you plan to build your own table, is to incorporate a hole to accomodate a table umbrella. No one likes to grill in the rain or snow!
Todd: I’ve been looking for a BGE table to build for some time so it was more than a great discovery to find yours. Hope it’s not too late to get measurements/dimensions (and any other building hints) of your table. Regards - RockB (in Colorado)
Hey,
Excellent job! I am about to take my first sip of the Green Egg Cool Aid and need to build a table. Problem is, I can’t find Oak 2X4s. I live in Metro Atlanta and the lumber industry here is all but gone. Neither the orange nor the blue guys sell oak 2×4s although they do sell the 1X4s. Any suggestions as to how I can get ahold of oak 2X4s would be appreciated.

My boyfriend purchased and egg for his father back at Christmas & now wants to build him the nest for Father’s Day. Would you mind emailing your plans. You sure did a great job on yours.

Todd,
I just purchased a medium egg and like everyone above, I really like the table you built. I would be thrilled if you wouldn’t mind sending me the plans/measurements as well. Thanks in advance!
Jeff
very cool!
A lot of folks have asked for plans for this table. I used what I found from The Naked Whiz website. Here’s another site that has some great drawings.
