36 Teams
3rd Dessert
3rd Cook’s Choice
3rd Pork
The WildBlue BBQ was held on July 20-21. This was a solo contest for me, so I tried to keep it as low key as possible. A little hot and humid, but nothing for a typical mid July day in central Kansas. Despite a brief Friday shower that dumped an inch of rain in 30 minutes, it was a beautiful weekend. My overall finish wasn’t what I was hoping for: 14th. However, the three 3rd place scores in pork, dessert, and cook’s choice made the weekend and two hour drive worth it.
Several cooks, including myself, prepared brisket and pulled pork for public sales on Saturday. The BBQ sales raised $1000 for Coeffey County FFA students going off to college. Its always great to see the sport of competition BBQ supporting the community like that and great to be part of it.
