No Top 10 Calls
Well, it was bound to happen that our luck would run out. Of the 47 teams at Liberty this weekend, we placed 12th in chicken, 13th for ribs, 13th for pork, and 26th for brisket. Our finish was 14th overall. It was an okay showing, but you always want to hear your name at the awards ceremony, no matter how well you do overall. This was our first contest in the last 15 contests where we didn’t hear our name called. We didn’t really deserve two calls at Blue Springs, so I guess it is kharma coming back around.
Though our BBQ performance lacked some luster, we had a really good time. This was the 9th contest for us this year and we were glad to just sit back and enjoy ourselves. We got the word out for a Friday night cooks party. It was great to meet familiar faces that we’ve seen at several contests but never had the opportunity to meet. We brought a cajun boil to the party complete with corn on the cob, potatoes, Hinck Farms Supper Sausage, shrimp, mussels, crawfish, and snow crab clusters. The favorite dish of the night for most were the crab cakes from Bare Bones BBQ.
It was a long year of BBQ and I am glad to hang the smoker up for a few months.
